Bedrooms are frequently redecorated in many homes. We look around at the new bedroom items in the stores and feel our room is outdated. However; when you think about it – it is only outdated because you saw newer items. There is no need to go out and purchased new bedding; unless of course; you are catering to heads of state. And even then; you really don’t need to go crazy and shatter your budget.

The quickest way to a new look is a splash of paint. Even if you use the same color (because you had paint left over), a fresh coat of color reinvigorates the room, makes it look cleaner, newer. If you’ve grown tired of your wall color, choose a new one. To start painting you need to drape protective cloths over the furniture. Most often – painting can cause you to think of others ways to rejuvenate the room.

You can also use wallpaper to change the look of a room; but it is much more work than painting. So; you may want to consider using faux finishes to spruce up the walls. Instead of purchasing books on faux finishes and decorative painting; check your public library to get some ideas.

If your budget is extremely limited, you might start by adding new pillow shams. Usually sold as a separate piece from comforters, sheets, or pillowcases, a sham is a highly decorative pillow covering. If you find a great deal on pillow shams you should buy them and fill them with plain foam pillows. Have you ever seen bedrooms in the fancy magazines? What do you see but; beds with loads of pillows to give the room a very sumptuous and relaxing look. The more pillows the better.

A new comforter or bedspread is another way to redecorate your bedroom inexpensively; but buy only during sales. Check local malls for discount linen stores, or browse the Internet for great deals on beautiful, but cheap comforters and bed skirts. Even flea markets sell overstocked items such as sheets and bedspreads and a great pricing. Of course; you can always bargain with the shop owner for a better price.

A simple way to create a coordinated look without spending a lot of money is to use bed sheets to make window treatments. Often, comforters are sold in “bed sets,” which contain the comforter, as well as a fitted sheet, flat sheet and pillowcases. Since you sheets will usually be covered by the comforter, you can use the fitted and flat sheets as material to frame bedroom windows. If you don’t sew, use the special “no-sew” fabric glue sold in craft and fabric stores to hem a nice edge. In a pinch, you can hold a hem using a hot glue gun.

Decorating or redecorating a bedroom is often a matter of changing one or two elements. Remember; if you have a guest room to make it as nice as your own bedroom. you want your guests to be comfortable. Try adding some scented candles and fresh cut flowers to the room to give your guests a true ‘welcome’ feeling.

Now that we have satellite or DISH TV, with hundreds of channels there is virtually limitless information available on almost any subject matter and home improvement TV shows are no exception with many different styles of passing on their information. Some are actual arts and crafts type channels and some are total home improvement make over shows. I’m a guy and I even get into these. It’s kind of cool to see how a project starts out and see the finished project in thirty minutes or an hour. HGTV is one such show and it’s my wife’s favorite. We could probably get by with that and ESPN and we would be just fine! You also see the Discovery channel offering lots of different types of home improvement shows and they are all very good and informative, although some can be a little on the boring side.

The craft style of home improvement TV shows is mainly aimed at older viewers who have an interest in woodwork and similar crafts. They usually show detailed instructions for restoring and creating new and wonderful things that you could use to improve your home with. There are also types of shows that are challenge style types so there are usually two teams battling it out for success and who ever has the best modification or has created the best craft wins. The prizes vary but often it isn’t for anything major. These types of shows are the boring ones I mentioned, at lest they are to me!

Then there are also the make over home improvement TV shows, they feature specific rooms such as bathrooms bedrooms or sitting rooms which get a complete makeover from top to bottom, paint and furniture. They bring in a team of designers while the husband of the owner sends her away on a trip for a little while and have the surprise for her coming back which is great. Sometimes they send the whole family away for a little vacation! The really cool thing about these shows is that they show you all different kind of ways to spruce up your home with very little effort and money. Sometimes they even feature a whole house being totally redone!

Home improvement TV shows are becoming very common and are popular with young and old viewers alike. They are a great source of helpful and handy tips, advice and information on what is necessary to create that stunning home we have always wanted with minimal costs and effort plus they also show things that can go wrong which helps to prepare you for these things as well.

Tips on how to Improve your Home

Most people after constructing a home realize that one part of the house could have been done better. Since this will take time and money, this is put on hold until the time comes that some renovation again is necessary.

When this happens, you can draw up the plans; work with the contractor in order to get the job done.

One part of the house most important for home improvement is the living room. Many people who visit and those who live in the home stay in this section of the house aside from the individual bedrooms.

A good idea would be changing the living room walls or floors if there are cracks already. You can call a contractor to measure and give an estimate.

It is up to the spouses to decide what kind of flooring will be used for example tile, wooden or laminated. The walls can be repainted or installed with wallpaper. This should match with the furniture of the house for consistency with the theme.

If there are no problems with the walls or flooring, perhaps the furniture could use some improvement. This doesn’t mean throwing out the old and buying a new set. If the former couch still looks good, perhaps this can be reupholstered while the table could get a nice varnish.

The home may be hot in the summer and cold during winter. You could also do some improvements on the windows. There are many types to choose from which are designed to stop air leakage, noise and moisture.

A good example is the slider door window. There are two panes of glass that can be moved to each side. A screen is also installed to allow a breeze come into the home. This can be made from aluminum or vinyl which will match the interior of the room.

The storm window is another good investment. This is designed to provide better insulation and prevent the loss of temperature in the home which will save money on the electricity bill.

The door can also be energy efficient. This works just like a window and the you don’t have to buy a new one and have it installed. You can just buy some magnetic weather stripping from the hardware store and place it on the top and bottom of the door.

There are many ways to improve the home that won’t cost much. You must assess the area that needs the most work then have it done first.
